HYDERABAD: In response to directives from the Election Commission of India (ECI), Telangana’s Chief Secretary, Santhi Kumari, has taken the step of reassigning key officials in the state. On Friday, District Collector Dr. B Gopi of Karimnagar and Commissioner of Police L Subbarayudu were transferred from their positions, citing concerns over their “inefficient and subpar performance” in upholding the model code of conduct mandated by the ECI. One major reason for the transfer was a complaint from a major media house.
According to Government Order No. 1497, issued by the Chief Secretary, both the District Collector and the Commissioner of Police have been directed to hand over their responsibilities to their immediate subordinates and subsequently report to the General Administration Department (GAD) located in Hyderabad.
This move reflects the state’s commitment to ensuring that officials actively adhere to the election code of conduct set by the ECI, as the region gears up for impending electoral events. The reassignment of these officials is expected to bolster the administration’s efforts to maintain transparency and efficiency throughout the election process.
