A senior citizen in Hyderabad fell into an uncovered manhole near Jama Masjid Chowki at Mahboob Chowk on Saturday night due to negligence on the part of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). According to witnesses, the man fell into the open drain after special prayers and was rescued by nearby shopkeepers. He sustained injuries on his legs, hands, head, and chest.
The TDP’s Greater Hyderabad Minority vice-president, Mohammed Ahmed, stated that the road had been dug up and manholes left uncovered for several weeks without any caution signboards. This has caused inconvenience to locals during Ramzan, and despite several complaints, no action was taken by GHMC. Commuters are facing difficulties and incidents due to the open manholes.
Ahmed took to social media to raise the issue and tagged Minister K T Rama Rao, City Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, and GHMC in his tweet. The incident highlights the need for proper cautionary measures to be taken by GHMC to ensure the safety of citizens.
