EAMCET Toppers Show Little Interest in Engineering Education in the State
Hyderabad, July 9 (Namaste Telangana): The top rankers in the EAMCET exam, which is conducted for admission to engineering courses in the state, have shown little interest in pursuing engineering education. They are more inclined towards joining IITs and NITs. This has raised concerns about the state’s capacity to attract top rankers in engineering colleges. Especially, the majority of top rankers in EAMCET are not opting for engineering colleges in the state. Instead, they are preferring IITs and NITs. This year, the subject was made clear during the first round of EAMCET counseling. Only one out of the top 200 rankers in TS EAMCET opted for counseling. If we consider the details of 300 rankers, only one attended counseling. Among 400 rankers, only three, and among 500 rankers, only 14 attended counseling. Only 104 students who secured ranks in the top colleges attended counseling.
Reasons behind this trend
While a large number of students who appeared for EAMCET opt for JEE exam, it is generally easy for talented students to secure good ranks in JEE as well. Consequently, they prefer IITs and NITs over engineering colleges in the state. Due to this, the state is unable to attract top rankers, and officials are raising concerns about attendance in counseling. With the completion of JOSAA counseling for admission to IITs, EAMCET counseling has started. Since top rankers have already joined IITs, the attendance for counseling is quite low. As a result, officials are analyzing the situation regarding EAMCET counseling schedule in a systematic manner. After the completion of admissions through JOSAA, EAMCET counseling started. But before EAMCET counseling, admissions in top colleges have taken place, and then students opted for IITs. However, this time, officials are discussing the issue strategically.
Illegal practices exposed
Illegal practices related to spot selection by private colleges came to light due to the lack of attendance by top rankers in counseling. Previously, the colleges concealed the fact that the seats had been filled and sold them during spot selection. The opportunity to reveal fraudulent practices and empty seats during spot selection has also been lost due to the absence of talented students in counseling. Currently, the number of seats in convener quota is 76,359, with only 62 seats remaining vacant. With the introduction of new courses and permission for new courses, the number of seats has increased. Now, colleges have been selected after 16 university colleges, two private universities, and 155 private engineering colleges. The total number of seats is 1,07,039 including convener and management quota. By this month, until option entry for web counselling is closed, 66,215 students have selected web options. This year, new courses such as Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence), Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering have been introduced.
In conclusion, the lack of interest shown by top rankers in EAMCET counseling for engineering courses in the state raises concerns about the state’s capacity to attract talented students. The preference for joining IITs and NITs instead of engineering colleges in the state has led to a decline in attendance for counseling. This situation has exposed illegal practices related to spot selection by private colleges. It is crucial for officials to address these issues and strategize accordingly to ensure the growth and development of engineering education in the state.
