DRDO Township in Hyderabad Celebrates Durga Puja

The Krishti Goshti, a Bengali community association in Hyderabad, is celebrating Durga Puja at the DRDO township community hall in Kanchanbagh. This year, they are focusing on being environmentally friendly.

They have chosen to use an eco-friendly Durga idol, which is the first of its kind in Hyderabad and South India. The idol is made from a lightweight material called paper-pulp, which is usually exported to other parts of the world. Many families, including scientists from organizations like DRDO, CSIR, DST, and Midhani, are participating in this celebration.

Esteemed dignitaries such as the Chairman and Secretary of DRDO, Dr SV Kamat, and Dr Raja Babu, along with directors from various DRDO labs, are attending the Durga Puja celebration. This unique event is organized by a community of highly intellectual individuals who work in scientific and technical professions in renowned research institutes affiliated with DRDO, CSIR, and DST.

This Puja has a long history, starting from the residential complex where Dr APJ Abdul Kalam lived in the 1980s. It is well-known and respected as a prominent celebration in Hyderabad.

After a three-year break, the Krishti Goshti Society is resuming their grand celebration of Durga Puja in the DRDO Township. They welcome all DRDO officials and employees living in areas like Kanchanbagh and LB Nagar to join in the festivities.
