Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, who has been serving as the Governor of Telangana for four years, expressed her concerns about the strained relationship between her office and the BRS government. She stated that she is making efforts to maintain cordial relations, but there seems to be a gap that she cannot measure. Regardless, she is focused on her own activities and is prepared to face any challenges that come her way.
Dr Soundararajan emphasized that she will not be a mere rubber stamp and will adhere to the constitution, rules, and regulations. When asked about the two names recommended by the state government for the position of MLC under the Governor quota, she explained that they did not meet the criteria. Only individuals with notable contributions in culture and social services are eligible, not politicians. Therefore, she did not accept their recommendations.
Additionally, Dr Soundararajan mentioned that she did not give her assent to the bill proposing the merger of TSRTC with the government. She sought legal advice and provided recommendations to protect the interests of RTC employees, but the government disregarded them. She is still examining the bill and will sign it if it proves to be beneficial. She asserted her commitment to a people-centric approach and stated that she will not be intimidated by threats or legal cases.
Dr Soundararajan also highlighted the shortcomings of rural development schemes, noting that the benefits are not reaching remote areas. Specifically, she mentioned that the Ayushman Bharat scheme is not effectively reaching these regions.
