Downpour of Troubles!

Heavy rain over the last 24 hours has caused chaos in the Warangal district. Several areas within the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) limits experienced flood-like conditions on Sunday, as the rain continued from Saturday night into the next day.

The district administration quickly alerted residents in low-lying areas, including Sai Nagar colony, NTR Nagar, and other nearby colonies, due to the Bondivagu stream overflowing into Bhadrakali Lake. Many residents in Hanumakonda areas like Sammaiah Nagar, Naim Nagar, Waddepally, Teachers Colony, Ambedkar Bhavan Road, 100 Feet Road, Gokul Nagar, and the Housing Board area are dealing with significant waterlogging.

Due to the emergency, Greater Warangal Mayor Gundu Sudha Rani and Commissioner Ashwini Tanaji Wakade canceled the leave of municipal employees so they could participate in rescue operations. The municipal officials set up a control room at the Warangal Tahsildar office and deployed Special Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams. Residents in distress can contact the control room through special toll-free numbers: 1800 425 1980, 97019 99645, and 97019 99676.

The heavy rain also affected vehicular traffic between Eturunagaram and Warangal, as streams like Jalagalancha Vagu overflowed onto National Highway 163 (connecting Hyderabad to Bhupalpatnam in Chhattisgarh). Katakshapur Lake in Atmakur mandal of Warangal district is also overflowing.

In Kesamudram, Mahabubabad district, rainwater flooded residential colonies. The rain also caused traffic disruptions in Raghunathpally, Jangaon district, along the Hyderabad-Warangal Highway.

Several trains were halted at Mahabubabad railway station due to damage to the tracks. The Mahabubabad police, led by Rural Inspector Saranya and SI Muralidhar, assisted stranded train passengers by distributing food and water.
