Hyderabad: MP A Raja, a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, is known for making controversial remarks. In September 2022, he made a speech at Periyar Thidal where he said, “You are a Shudra as long as you are a Hindu. You are the son of a prostitute until you remain a Shudra.” This speech went viral and caused a major controversy.
Raja’s comment received criticism from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) magazine Organiser. They stated, “If you are a Hindu, it means you are a Shudra, and Shudra means you are the son of a prostitute.”
Despite facing criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Raja did not retract his statement. He continued to stand by his ‘Shudra-Hindu’ comment.
