DK Aruna Slams Congress Government for Restrictions on Bathukamma Celebrations

Hyderabad:

BJP National Vice President and Member of Parliament, DK Aruna, criticized the Congress-led state government for not allowing Bathukamma celebrations at the Goddess Bhagyalakshmi temple near Charminar. She spoke to the media after participating in a Bathukamma event organized by the BJP Mahila Morcha on Friday. The event also included Vanathi Srinivasan, the National President of BJP Mahila Morcha, and Dr. Mekala Shilpa Reddy, the State President of BJP Mahila Morcha.

Aruna, the MP from Mahbubnagar, accused both the BRS and Congress of not respecting Telangana’s traditions and women. She mentioned that the BRS claims they were responsible for the creation of Telangana, while Congress claims they granted statehood. However, according to her, neither party values the local culture. “This is a dictatorial government,” she said, referring to the current Congress government, which she claimed was behaving in the same manner as the previous BRS government by not allowing the Bathukamma celebrations.

She also criticized the Congress government for acting like a dictator, even though it came to power based on people’s desire for change in the last assembly elections. Aruna questioned why there was an objection to allowing Bathukamma celebrations and asked if Telangana women would have to go to court to get permission for such events. She expressed disappointment that women, who came despite the rain to worship during Navaratri, were let down due to restrictions from the police, who only allowed events until 5:30 PM.

Aruna warned the Congress government that it could face consequences for obstructing the Bathukamma celebrations. She pointed out that people voted out the BRS government because they were unhappy with its rule, and now the Congress might find itself in a similar situation if it continues to act in the same way. She also said the Congress government should not risk angering the Goddess by creating difficulties for the festival.

She further criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, saying that although he promised to fulfill the people’s wishes, he is following the same path as former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

In addition, Aruna addressed recent remarks made by State Minister Konda Surekha about Telugu film industry actresses. She emphasized that politicians should be careful with their words and avoid making unnecessary comments about families, especially those not involved in politics. She specifically mentioned the Akkineni family, a prominent name in the film industry, saying it was not appropriate to interfere with them.
