BJP national vice president DK Aruna claimed that the Kaleshwaram project in Telangana State is the biggest scam in the country. She pointed out that the Congress party previously demanded a CBI probe into the project but is now silent on the issue. Aruna questioned if the State government is intentionally delaying the matter under the guise of a judicial enquiry.
During a press conference at the State BJP office, Aruna stated that while the project was initially estimated to cost Rs 1 lakh crore, there has been corruption involving thousands of crores of rupees in its execution. She urged the Congress government to cancel the previous government’s G.O and immediately conduct a CBI inquiry. Aruna expressed suspicions that the Congress government is trying to protect former CM KCR.
Aruna accused the previous BRS government of intentionally increasing the cost of the Kaleshwaram project from Rs 63,000 crore to Rs 1.50 lakh crore under the pretense of project redesign. She emphasized that a CBI inquiry would reveal the truth instead of an inquiry conducted by a High Court judge, as suggested by the Congress government.
Aruna reminded that Revanth Reddy had previously accused the BRS government of engaging in widespread corruption in the Kaleshwaram project. She questioned why Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who criticized the Central government and Central ministers on this issue while in opposition, is now silent.
Furthermore, Aruna alleged that the Congress party is intentionally delaying the investigations into the Medigadda, Kaleshwaram construction, and other scams. She demanded clarity from the State government regarding its stance on corruption in the Kaleshwaram project.
Aruna also highlighted two incidents related to the project. On July 9, 2020, a wall of the gravity canal in Bhupalpally district collapsed, and on July 14, 2022, Lakshmi pump house and Annaram pump house near Kaleshwaram were submerged due to heavy floods in Godavari. There are allegations that the submergence was caused by quality and design defects in the construction.
In summary, Aruna criticized the State government for its silence on the alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram project and called for a CBI inquiry into the matter. She also questioned the Chief Minister’s silence on the issue and demanded clarity on the government’s stance regarding corruption in the project.
