Residents are worried that the upcoming rain will make the situation worse. Despite voicing their concerns on social media, locals feel that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has been slow in addressing the problem. Additionally, efforts to clean and desilt the drains in these areas are moving at a sluggish pace.
Many residents have pointed out that open drains in various neighborhoods are clogged with garbage. If it rains, the streets could flood, and in some places, there is continuous sewage overflow. Despite multiple complaints, these issues remain unresolved and cause significant inconvenience during the monsoon season as it takes months to fix them.
The affected areas include Nampally, Red Hills, Shaikpet, Tolichowki, Mehdipatnam, Film Nagar, Nizampet, Kukatpally, RK Puram, and Malkajgiri. Residents are frustrated with the situation and have been using the HMWSSB app to report the problems. However, little action has been taken to resolve the sewage overflow issues.
Residents of Nizampet and Nampally have expressed their frustration with the lack of proper sewerage systems in their areas. The old sewer lines and inadequate drainage infrastructure have led to waterlogging and sewage overflow even with moderate rainfall. Complaints to the Water Board officials have not yielded any results, leaving residents dealing with foul smells and mosquito infestations.
As the monsoon season nears, desilting works are progressing slowly in many places due to delays caused by the election code. Residents like R Shekar from Red Hills have been using the HMWSSB app to request cleaning of the drains, but no action has been taken yet. The situation remains precarious as residents brace themselves for potential flooding and sewage overflow during the upcoming rainy season.
