Wanaparthy: Protesters Demand Support for Victim's Family

The KVPS, SFI, DYFI, and AIDWA district leaders, including Bhagat, Adi, Mahesh, Kavitha, Renuka, and Uma, have called for justice and support for a grieving family. They demanded that the government provide Rs 20 lakh as compensation (ex-gratia) to the family and offer a government job to one of its members to help them recover from their loss.

During a protest led by students, which was also attended by the victim’s family members, the AIDWA highlighted the responsibilities of hostel wardens. They stated that, as per government rules, wardens are required to stay in hostels throughout the day, from morning until students go to bed, to ensure proper supervision.

The protesters urged public representatives, including MLAs and district collectors, to personally visit and stay overnight at hostels to oversee the conditions and ensure students’ safety. This, they argued, would promote accountability and improve oversight.

However, the leaders criticized the current situation, claiming that hostel wardens are neglecting their duties. They alleged that wardens often draw monthly salaries without fulfilling their responsibilities and instead leave unqualified individuals to monitor the hostels. This lack of supervision, they said, has led to tragic incidents.

They also accused district-level welfare hostel supervisors of failing in their roles, which has resulted in serious issues, including food poisoning and other health problems among students. The protesters demanded immediate action to address these problems and prevent further harm to students.
