According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is expected to have moderate to heavy rainfall today. The minimum temperature in the city was 26.6 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than usual. The humidity level at 8:30 am was 85 percent. The maximum temperature is predicted to reach 35 degrees Celsius.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 9 am was 71, which falls under the “satisfactory” category. The AQI ranges from 0 to 100, with 0-100 considered good, 100-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor, and 401-500 severe.
The water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi has exceeded the danger mark of 205.33 meters after declining in the past days. The Central Water Commission reported that the water level at the Old Railway Bridge has been near the danger mark since reaching a record high of 208.66 meters on July 13.
Heavy rainfall on Thursday caused the Yamuna River to breach the threshold again. By 9 pm, the water level at the Old Railway Bridge measured 205.99 meters and is expected to reach 205.65 meters by Thursday evening.
The flow rate at the Hathnikund barrage in Yamunanagar varied between 28,000 and 41,000 cusecs on Thursday. The IMD predicts isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi until July 29.
Due to continuous rainfall, relief and rehabilitation efforts in flood-affected areas of Delhi have been hindered. The water level of the Yamuna River remains close to the danger mark, impacting ongoing efforts. Over 27,000 people have been evacuated from their homes, resulting in significant damage to properties, businesses, and livelihoods, amounting to crores of rupees.
