Delhi court to announce decision on Kavitha's bail petition on May 6

The CBI Special Court in New Delhi has postponed making a decision on BRS MLC K Kavitha’s bail petition until May 6. The Enforcement Directorate has asked the court not to grant her bail. The court heard arguments regarding Kavitha’s petition for three days in a row at the Rouse Avenue Court. Her lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, presented arguments on Monday, while ED counsel Joeb Hussain argued on the following two days. Kavitha’s legal team will submit a rejoinder in the next few days. She will remain in jail until May 7 as the court extended her judicial custody for 14 days on Tuesday. The court is set to make a decision on the CBI case on May 2.

The ED has urged the court not to grant bail to Kavitha, alleging that she tampered with evidence and intimidated witnesses like Arun Ramchandra Pillai, who claimed to be acting as a proxy for Kavitha. Pillai initially stated that he invested in Indospirit on Kavitha’s behalf, but later retracted his statement, alleging that he was coerced by ED officials. The agency presented evidence of Kavitha’s auditor Buchhi Babu’s involvement in the case.

Additionally, the ED claimed that Magunta Srinivaslu Reddy, who became an approver, testified that Kavitha took Rs 50 crore from him and used intermediaries like Buchhi Babu and Abhishek Boinpally to transfer hawala money. During a meeting at Oberoi Hotel, representatives from the Aam Aadmi Party allegedly requested Rs 100 crore, which was then transferred through hawala channels. The court will announce its decision on the bail petition on May 6 and on the CBI case on May 2.
