Delhi and Agra Under Flood Threat as Yamuna River Water Levels Surge Past Danger Mark

The water level of the Yamuna river in Delhi is above the danger mark, measuring at 205.34 meters. This is due to heavy rainfall on Friday night. Many residents in nearby areas are staying in relief camps. The India Meteorological Department predicts more rainfall in several states.

The Yamuna river recently broke a 45-year-old record and reached its highest level on July 13. Although the flood situation has improved, water levels are still rising. Both the public and authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

In Mathura, the police are facing challenges in rescue operations because people are gathering at the river for selfies. The water level in Mathura has risen above the danger mark and may rise further due to forecasted rain.

Residents in low-lying areas and devotees in Vrindavan town are facing waterlogged roads. Despite the dangerous conditions, many people are still gathering near the river to have fun and take selfies.

Unfortunately, a youth lost his life while reportedly taking a selfie on the railway bridge. Authorities are concerned about safety violations and have urged people to stay away from the riverbanks.

The release of water from Hathnikund Barrage and Okhla Barrage resulted in the water level of the Yamuna crossing the danger mark in Mathura and reaching the alert level in Agra for the second time in a month.
