De-Addiction Centers to be Established in All Districts of Telangana, Declares State Government

0

The Telangana Government has announced that they will be opening a de-addiction centre in each of the 33 districts in Telangana. These centres are for people who are addicted to alcohol or drugs and will provide free treatment, yoga therapy, and counselling services to help them resist relapse.

This decision comes after the Telangana High Court criticized the government for the six-year delay in opening these centres. In February, the government announced that new de-addiction centres would be opening in the state.

Before this announcement, Andhra Pradesh, which was formed after Telangana was separated from it in 2014, had already developed 18 de-addiction centres in its 13 districts. In 2016, social activist Mamidi Venu Madhav filed a Public Interest Litigation asking the government to open these centres in all districts.

Now, with this announcement, people struggling with addiction in Telangana will have access to the help they need across the state.
