DCA confiscates two drug stocks valued at Rs 5.52 lakh for price gouging

The Telangana State Drug Control Administration (DCA) seized two overpriced drugs, Itrarole-100 and Itrarole-200, from a medical shop in Vanasthalipuram. The stocks seized were worth Rs 5.52 lakh.

These drugs fall under price control according to the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. The prices of these drugs should be in line with the ceiling prices set by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA).

Itrarole-100, made by Sunfine Health Care, was being sold for Rs 310 for 10 capsules, while the NPPA ceiling price was Rs 18.67. This means the manufacturer was charging Rs 12.33 more per capsule.

Itrarole-200, also made by Sunfine Health Care, had an MRP of Rs 435 for 10 capsules, with each capsule being sold at Rs 43.50. The NPPA ceiling price for this drug was Rs 24.77, indicating an extra charge of Rs 18.73 per capsule.

The DCA officer stated that further investigations will be conducted and legal action will be taken against those involved in overpricing essential medicines. It is mandatory for the prices of essential medicines to adhere to the Ceiling Prices set by the Central government, and any violation of this rule will result in strict consequences.
