Gadwal: District Collector B. YM. Santosh visited several important locations in Erravalli Mandal’s Beachupalli T.G. to promote oil palm cultivation. These locations included the Oil Fed, Oil Palm Nursery, and Oil Palm farms.
During his visit, the Collector checked the nursery’s oil palm plants. He focused on important aspects like planting precautions, irrigation, and general cultivation techniques. The district aims to plant 2 lakh saplings, and so far, 36,000 saplings have been planted. There are still 63,000 saplings ready for farmers.
Nursery organizers explained various cultivation aspects to the Collector. This included managing fertilizers, plant care, weed control, and water use. The Collector talked about the benefits of intercropping with oil palm to help farmers earn more money.
The Collector highlighted the long-term benefits of oil palm. He said that oil palm plants start producing fruit in the fourth year and can provide income for up to 30 years. The government is supporting oil palm cultivation with significant subsidies.
The Collector asked agriculture department officials to inform villagers about the benefits and techniques of oil palm cultivation. He emphasized the importance of making every farmer aware of the government’s special measures and subsidies for oil palm.
In Kondapet village, the Collector visited a farmer’s oil palm farm. He looked at the cultivation methods and discussed drip irrigation. He also took part in a Mega Oil Farm Plantation program in Timmapur, where he planted a sapling. Additionally, he visited a three-year-old oil palm plantation in Munagala and a four-year-old plantation in Shabad to see successful cultivation and harvesting methods.
Horticulture Department Officer Akbar Ali, Nursery Incharge Chandra Shekhar, horticulture officials from all mandals, and TG Fed staff accompanied the Collector on his visit. The visit emphasized the district administration’s commitment to improving oil palm cultivation, aiming to enhance farmers’ economic conditions through sustainable agriculture.
