Damodar calls for CID investigation into hospital kidney transplant issues

Hyderabad: Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha announced on Friday that the irregularities in kidney transplantation at Alaknanda Hospital in the city will be thoroughly investigated by the CID. He held a review meeting at his residence to discuss the case.

During the meeting, the Minister reviewed a preliminary report prepared by a doctors’ committee. Officials informed him that the hospital did not have the necessary permissions to perform transplant surgeries and that these procedures were conducted in violation of regulations.

The investigation uncovered that individuals from Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka were involved in the illegal activity. Vulnerable and financially struggling people were reportedly coerced into donating their kidneys. Specifically, two women from Tamil Nadu had their kidneys harvested at the hospital, which were then transplanted into patients from Karnataka.

The Minister was also briefed that the hospital has been sealed, and its owner has been arrested. Rajanarasimha emphasized the need for a thorough and detailed investigation into the matter. He stated that such illegal activities will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“This issue is being taken very seriously,” the Minister said. “All those involved must face severe punishment, and every piece of evidence must be collected to ensure justice.”

To ensure a comprehensive inquiry, he ordered the case to be handed over to the CID. Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongtu has been directed to issue the necessary orders immediately.
