Hyderabad: Foot Over Bridge Closure Causes Hardship for Locals, Demand for New Bridge Rises

The Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Nampally Railway Station, which was once a vital pathway for daily commuters, has been closed for the past six years. This closure has caused significant inconvenience for locals who used the bridge to travel between Red Hills and the Public Garden in Nampally. Many are now urging the South Central Railways (SCR) to construct a new modern Foot Over Bridge.

The old iron bridge was shut down by the SCR due to its deteriorating condition. Its closure has affected a large number of people, including daily passengers, walkers, senior citizens, women, and children. The bridge was an essential route for those heading to the Public Garden for walks, as well as for those catching buses or accessing the Assembly Metro Station to commute to offices and schools. Without the bridge, people are forced to take longer, alternative routes, which has disrupted their daily routines.

In response to this long-standing issue, locals and commuters have started a signature campaign to urge the SCR to take action. So far, around 1,500 signatures have been collected. Once enough signatures are gathered, they plan to submit the petition to SCR officials, hoping for a quick resolution.

Mohammed Abid Ali, a local resident, expressed his frustration, stating, “With the closure of the FOB for the past six years, we locals are facing hardships to reach the station premises. We are forced to take long detours. A new modern Foot Over Bridge would ensure the safety and convenience of commuters and improve the overall infrastructure of the area. It would benefit the health and well-being of walkers and residents who rely on this route for their daily activities.”

The locals hope that the SCR will address their concerns soon by constructing a new, modern bridge that will restore ease of access and enhance the community’s infrastructure.
