Cyberabad Police Recover 1,100 Lost and Stolen Phones Worth ₹3.30 Crore
The Cyberabad police in Hyderabad have successfully recovered 1,100 stolen and lost mobile phones over the past 45 days. The recovered devices are valued at ₹3.30 crore.
Officials stated that the recovery was made possible through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. These phones were then returned to their rightful owners. Among the recovered phones, 235 were collected from police stations in areas like Madhapur, Balanagar, Medchal, Rajendranagar, and Shamshabad, among others.
DCP Crimes K. Narasimha highlighted the importance of mobile phones in everyday life and how their recovery reflects the police’s dedication to protecting citizens from cybercrimes. He pointed out that mobile theft often leads to misuse by cybercriminals, who sometimes access sensitive information such as bank account details through stolen devices.
The DCP also noted that many people are unaware of how to safeguard their devices from being misused. Since the CEIR portal was introduced, it has facilitated the recovery of 7,500 mobile phones, with 5,500 of them recovered this year alone. “We urge citizens to secure their devices and stay cautious of fraudulent calls or suspicious online links often used by criminals,” he added.
Several citizens expressed their gratitude towards the police for recovering their phones. One man shared how he had lost his phone at a bus stop and filed a complaint at the nearest station. To his surprise, the police contacted him later, informing him that his phone had been found. He was extremely happy and thanked the police for their efforts.
Another woman explained that losing her phone had been a financial burden as she was still paying EMIs for it. She was relieved and overjoyed when the police returned her phone and expressed her heartfelt gratitude.
The Cyberabad police’s recovery drive has been praised for its effectiveness and has brought relief to many citizens who thought they would never see their lost phones again.
