Cyberabad Police Busts ATM Fraud Gang
The Cyberabad Police successfully dismantled a three-member gang involved in attention-diversion crimes. The gang, active in Cyberabad and surrounding suburbs, was found with 140 stolen ATM cards and Rs. 2.38 lakh in cash.
Based on a tip-off, the police arrested three suspects: Kariman Shani (33), Rupdev Sahani (34), and Saheeb Sahini (34). All three are laborers from Shamshabad, originally hailing from Bihar and Punjab. Their scheme targeted senior citizens and individuals who were less familiar with using ATMs.
The gang’s strategy involved collecting old ATM cards from various parts of the country. At ATM centers in Cyberabad and nearby areas, they would approach elderly or illiterate individuals, offering to “help” them during cash withdrawals. While distracting the victims, they would swap their ATM cards with old, inactive ones. Later, they would use the stolen cards to withdraw money.
The police investigation has uncovered at least 15 fraud cases linked to the gang, spanning across Cyberabad and Jadcherla. ACP Shadnagar, N Ch Ranga Swamy, praised the swift action of the Cyberabad Police in apprehending the criminals. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify additional victims.
This case underscores the dedication of the Cyberabad Police to combat attention-diversion crimes and protect vulnerable citizens. The public is reminded to stay cautious and alert while using ATMs to avoid falling prey to such scams.
