Cyberabad Police Arrest Two in CMR College Voyeurism Case
The Cyberabad police have arrested two individuals working at CMR College in connection with a voyeurism incident. The accused, identified as 20-year-olds Nanda Kishore Kumar and Govind Kumar, have confessed to their crimes and are now in judicial custody, according to the Medchal police.
Protests Spark Investigation
Kishore and Govind, both from Bihar, worked at CMR College. The incident came to light after massive protests by the college students. In response, the Medchal police launched an investigation. Based on the students’ complaints, a case was registered under Sections 77 and 125 of the BNS Act. During the investigation, the two accused were taken into custody.
Targeting Hostel Girls
The police revealed that Kishore and Govind engaged in voyeurism, specifically targeting female hostel residents when they used the washroom. “The accused took advantage of their access to the hostel and violated the girls’ privacy,” stated N. Koti Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the Medchal Zone, Cyberabad.
Negligence by Hostel Wardens
The DCP also criticized the negligence of the hostel wardens, KV Dhanalaxmi (64) and Allam Preethi Reddy (42). Despite being informed by the victims, the wardens failed to report the incident to the police or the victims’ parents. Instead, they attempted to suppress the matter, insulted the victims, and blamed them with derogatory remarks. As a result, both wardens have also been booked for their role in the case.
Pressure from College Administration
Further investigation revealed that senior members of the college administration, including Principal Varahabatla Anantha Narayana (52), Director Madireddy Janga Reddy (56), and Chairman Chamakura Gopal Reddy, pressured the hostel staff to downplay the incident. Their efforts to protect the institution’s reputation indirectly emboldened the accused to carry out the acts of voyeurism.
Serious Lapse in Security
The DCP pointed out a critical lapse in security, stating that the male accused were housed near the girls’ hostel washrooms. This arrangement posed a serious threat to the safety and privacy of the victims and enabled the crimes. Both Kishore and Govind have been remanded by the court, and the investigation into the case is ongoing.
