Hyderabad: In a major effort to tackle the increasing traffic problems in the Cyberabad region, Mr. Avinash Mohanty, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, and Mr. D. Joel Davis, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic Cyberabad, held a key meeting with leaders from the IT industry. The meeting aimed to find quick and medium-term solutions to reduce traffic congestion in Hitec City and the Financial District.
During the meeting, several strategies were discussed to improve traffic conditions. These included introducing staggered shifts to spread out traffic during the day and week. IT companies were also asked to share employee arrival data to help predict and manage traffic better.
Another suggestion was installing cameras on tall buildings to monitor live traffic flow. The use of traffic marshals, possibly funded through CSR initiatives, was also proposed to help manage traffic more effectively. The meeting also emphasized the importance of encouraging carpooling among employees.
Improving roads and creating alternate routes were also discussed as potential solutions to ease traffic. Additionally, there was a focus on enhancing public transport, including better parking facilities and bus stops at key locations such as Raidurgam metro station and Image Towers.
The group also talked about building foot over bridges (FOBs) to improve pedestrian movement and provide easier access to IT parks. They proposed a centralized transportation system or shared shuttles for employees working within IT parks.
It was noted that some of these ideas would require coordination with other government departments. A follow-up meeting with stakeholders from TSIIC, TSRTC, GHMC, and other relevant government bodies is planned in the coming weeks.
Ramesh Kaza, Secretary of SCSC, recommended forming small groups to manage the execution of each idea. Prashanth Nandella, President of HYSEA, added that SCSC and HYSEA would work together closely to form a Task Force to monitor progress and ensure effective outcomes.
Several industry leaders, including Bharani Aroll, Past President of HYSEA, and Amarnath Atmakuri, CRO, ITE&C Department, actively participated in the discussions. Important representatives from top companies like Infosys, Microsoft, WIPRO, Cognizant, and others were also present.
This meeting marks a positive step towards implementing practical solutions to improve traffic management in one of Hyderabad’s fastest-growing regions.
