Hyderabad: Solar Power Plants to Be Set Up by Women of Self-Help Groups
Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari has instructed officials to take immediate action to establish solar power plants on approximately 231 acres of land. This initiative will be carried out in the first phase through the involvement of women belonging to self-help groups (SHGs) in Telangana.
A review meeting was held at the Secretariat on Monday to assess the progress of various schemes under the Mahila Shakti programme. During the meeting, Santhi Kumari emphasized that the solar power plants should be set up within the next six months across five districts. She suggested utilizing vacant endowment lands on a lease basis for this purpose, with the management of the solar plants being handled by SHG women.
In addition to this, the Chief Secretary discussed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s vision to empower SHG members and help them achieve financial success. She proposed that 150 electric buses should be purchased by SHG women, with their management responsibilities handed over to the Road Transport Corporation (RTC).
Santhi Kumari also directed officials to expedite the construction of district federation buildings in various districts by the end of June. Furthermore, she announced plans to organize a ‘Saras Mela’ at the Indira Mahila Shakti Bazaar in Madhapur, which is scheduled to take place by January 25.
