CS hails Telangana as a frontrunner in embracing energy conservation measures

The Chief Secretary of Telangana, Santhi Kumari, announced that the state is leading in adopting energy conservation measures. The government aims to promote energy efficiency appliances and conservation to the public. A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari to develop and implement a roadmap for reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to non-conventional energy sources.

Telangana currently has a cumulative capacity of 6335 MW of renewable energy, making it one of the leading states in the country. The adoption of renewable energy has increased from 9.8% to 14.1% in terms of energy usage. The share of renewable energy in installed capacity is around 25%. The government plans to continue adopting energy conservation measures and promote energy efficiency appliances.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed the MD of TSREDCO to propose specific locations for installing EV charging stations in villages and mandals. Special Chief Secretary Energy, Sunil Sharma, requested that all government departments be instructed to install solar rooftop systems through TSREDCO. Instructions should also be issued to mandate solar rooftops for residential and commercial buildings and link them to building permissions in all municipalities and urban local bodies in the state.

The meeting also discussed the formation of a committee for promoting and implementing Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) projects and issuing a policy for waste-to-energy projects. Secretary R&B Srinivas Raju, Secretary PR Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Transport Commissioner Buddha Prakash Jyoti, TSREDCO MD Janaiah, and other officials were present at the meeting.
