CPI leader warns Telugu actors against being tempted by money

CPI National Secretary Dr. K. Narayana has criticized several film and television personalities from the Telugu industry for promoting betting apps. He claims that these promotions are negatively impacting young people.

Speaking in the national capital on Friday, Narayana expressed disappointment over failed legal actions against these individuals in Hyderabad. He stated that artists should use their influence for constructive purposes and the well-being of society, rather than for monetary gain through harmful advertisements.

He condemned the actions of film personalities who use their fame to promote betting apps, which he believes are ruining young lives. Narayana recalled how past figures like Alluri Ramalingaiah used art to contribute to societal development, contrasting that with the current trend of celebrities endorsing unethical products.

Narayana also criticized actors who, despite having stable incomes, engage in misleading advertisements for financial benefits. He rejected their claims that they promoted betting apps unknowingly or that they were justified by legal loopholes. He warned that people trust celebrity endorsements, which can lead to serious consequences, especially as more young people fall victim to betting addiction.

Additionally, he pointed out that promoting harmful products like gutka, paan spices, real estate scams, and fraudulent gold businesses is damaging to society. He recalled that actor Chiranjeevi had once responded to his criticism of a Coca-Cola advertisement by announcing that he would no longer participate in such ads.

Narayana emphasized that existing laws have loopholes that allow unethical practices to continue. He cited former US President Donald Trump, who openly admitted to avoiding legal trouble due to such loopholes. He also mentioned a case where a judge ruled that gutka is considered a food item in India. However, he stressed that moral responsibility toward society should be more important than legal technicalities and profit.

In conclusion, Narayana urged the film industry to stop endorsing commercial products that could harm the public and instead use their platform for the betterment of society.
