The Rouse Avenue Court in Hyderabad has postponed arguments on an interim bail petition filed by BRS MLC K Kavitha to April 4. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi represented Kavitha in court and requested both interim and regular bail. Kavitha has been cooperating with the inquiry and even mentioned her second child’s class IX exams.
Singhvi raised concerns about the urgency of Kavitha’s arrest, especially since her name was not in the FIR. He highlighted that the arresting agency relied on statements from Arun Ramchandra Pillai and Buchibabu, which were later retracted. Singhvi argued that these factors should be considered for granting bail.
The court has decided to postpone the hearing to April 4 and has sent notice to the investigating agency for their response before making a decision. The Enforcement Directorate did not present arguments on Monday, but they may do so on April 4. Kavitha, who is currently in Tihar jail under judicial custody for her involvement in the Delhi liquor case, had filed a petition seeking interim bail.
Previously, the court had granted some requests from Kavitha, such as allowing her home food and clothes. She had also filed a complaint against the Tihar jail superintendent for not permitting her to have home-cooked meals. The superintendent explained that according to jail regulations, home food cannot be provided.
