Political Tensions Rise in Telangana Assembly Over Corruption Allegations

Hyderabad: The Telangana budget assembly sessions have turned into a heated political battleground, with corruption allegations dominating discussions. Instead of focusing on financial planning and governance, ruling and opposition parties are clashing over accusations.

The controversy began when BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) accused the Congress government of running a commission-based system, allegedly charging 20-30% on all projects. His remarks sparked an immediate response from Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, who dismissed the allegations and countered by accusing KTR and the previous BRS government of corruption. He demanded that KTR provide evidence or withdraw his statement from the assembly record.

The situation escalated further when KTR brought up past allegations against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He claimed that Revanth Reddy had secured the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president post by paying a ₹50 crore bribe, an accusation initially made by Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. KTR also referenced the 2015 cash-for-vote scandal, questioning Revanth Reddy’s political credibility.

Congress leaders reacted strongly to these allegations, leading to intense arguments in the assembly. The heated exchanges disrupted the proceedings, with members from both sides focusing more on personal attacks than on governance and policy discussions.

As budget deliberations continue, political rivalries seem to be overshadowing important discussions on governance. The ongoing tension suggests that the assembly sessions will remain confrontational in the coming days.
