In the Women’s Premier League (WPL) final between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on Sunday, Shafali Verma fell victim to a controversial decision made by the umpire. The incident occurred during the second over of the game when Issy Wong bowled a full toss above waist-high, and Shafali tried to make room and sliced it in the air. Amelia Kerr took a simple catch at backward point, but instead of calling it a no ball, the umpire ruled it out. Shafali went upstairs for a review after consultation with Meg Lanning, and replays showed that the ball was clearly above waist-high. However, to the surprise of the Delhi Capitals camp, Shafali was given out. Netizens slammed the umpire for the controversial decision. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians won the game with three balls to spare as Nat Sciver-Brunt smashed an unbeaten 55-ball 60, while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur made a 39-ball 37. Delhi Capitals managed 131/9 in 20 overs.
