Congress holds discussions with CPI for potential alliance; Left parties feel betrayed by BRS and a probable agreement is imminent.

The Left parties, which helped the TRS win the Munugode bypoll in 2022, are now considering forming an alliance with the Congress party in Telangana. The CPI’s top leaders met with AICC incharge Manikrao Thakre to discuss this alliance. The meeting included the CPI State secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao, Chada Venkat Reddy CPI national secretary, Palla Venkat Reddy, and former MP Aziz Pasha. The CPI leaders proposed four seats for the alliance, but no conclusion was reached as they insisted on at least three seats. The State leadership will announce their decision after further discussions within the party and with CPM leadership.

Sambasiva Rao clarified that the meeting was only a consultation and that no top leader of Congress from Telangana was present. He mentioned that more talks may be needed before reaching a consensus. Thakre is also expected to meet with CPM state leadership. CPM state secretary Thammineni Veerabhadram expressed optimism about the alliance, while criticizing BRS for moving closer to BJP and failing to fulfill the coalition agreement.

The Left leadership was upset with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s release of a list of party candidates. Sambasiva Rao accused KCR of betraying them and regretted supporting the TRS in the past.

In conclusion, discussions are ongoing between the Left parties and Congress for a potential alliance in Telangana.
