Hyderabad: Congress Challenges BJP for Open Debate on Governance

The Congress leadership in Telangana criticized the BJP’s 11-year rule, calling it a “dark reign.” They challenged BJP leaders to an open debate comparing the BJP’s governance over the past decade with Congress’s achievements in its less than one year of rule in the state.

This challenge comes after the BJP released a “chargesheet” against the state government. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud highlighted the unfulfilled promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leaders during the 2014, 2019, and 2024 general elections.

In a media statement, Goud pointed out how the BJP came to power in 2014 with what he described as “fake promises.” These included creating 2 crore jobs, bringing back black money from Swiss banks, and reducing the prices of essential goods and petrol.

He further accused the BJP of worsening unemployment to levels not seen in 45 years and maintaining power by allegedly “poaching” 411 MLAs from rival parties. “It does not suit a party like the BJP, which polarizes votes along religious lines, to criticize the Congress. Our party has focused on development and fulfilled most of its election promises,” Goud asserted.
