A fire broke out in an apartment building in Red Hills, Hyderabad, causing distress to nearby residents. The condition of the building and the surrounding area worsened due to the fire. The air in the affected place became polluted with chemicals from a nearby godown, leading to complaints of burning eyes and headaches. The chemicals also spread on the road, making it sticky and slippery.
Residents reported experiencing asphyxia and burning eyes. They had to cover their faces with masks due to the smoke and chemicals in the air. Some residents temporarily moved out of the area to escape the discomfort. Thick smoke covered the locality, and chemicals on the road caused burning eyes. The entire stretch and nearby routes were damaged by the chemicals, making them slippery.
The chemicals were used as lubricants and caused further damage to the roads. Motorists faced difficulties and accidents due to the slippery conditions. People, including officials and media persons, found it challenging to walk on the road, and their footwear was also damaged.
AIMIM Chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi expressed his concern over the accident and prayed for the recovery of the injured and strength for the families of those who lost their lives.
A case has been booked against the owner of the residential apartment where the fire occurred. The owner is currently absconding, and the police have formed special teams to apprehend him. The police have charged him under various sections of the IPC and the Explosives Act.
Minister K T Rama Rao has instructed the police to take tough action against those found guilty. The Fire Services officials mentioned that no one had complained about the storage of large quantities of chemicals in the building. Forensic experts have visited the building to collect evidence, and both GHMC and Fire department officials have conducted separate inquiries.
