Community backlash erupts over proposed ethanol plant

Local farmers and residents of Chinna Tandrapadu village have made an urgent request to the District Collector. On Monday, they asked for the immediate cancellation of a proposed ethanol plant by Gayatri Renewable Fuels & Private Ltd. The plant is planned to be built on agricultural land near Pedda Dhanwada village, covering survey numbers 174/1, 174/A/1, 174/A2, and 174/8.

The villagers are worried because they were not informed about the construction of this ethanol plant. They fear it could cause serious pollution, harming not just the land in Pedda Dhanwada but also in nearby villages like Chinna Dhanwada, Nasanuru, Mandoddi, and others. They believe the plant could damage agricultural lands and affect many communities.

The government had previously given 152 acres of farmland to the Dalit community. Additionally, 6 acres were provided for housing after the 2009 floods. Now, farmers are concerned that the ethanol plant will make their situation worse, as there is already limited farmland available for Dalits near the housing plots.

Farmers also raised concerns about the Tungabhadra River. They explained that the polluted water from the ethanol plant could harm this important water source. The river is crucial for drinking and irrigation in the area. Water from the Tummilla Lift Irrigation project is vital for farming, and any contamination could ruin crops, affecting both people and livestock.
