Commander of Southern Command, GOC-IN-C, conducts review of Agniveer training at 1 EME Centre

Lieutenant General AK Singh, the General Officer Commanding in Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Southern Command and President Gorkha Brigade and Colonel 11 Gorkha Rifles & Sikkim Scouts, visited 1 EME Centre in Secunderabad. The purpose of his visit was to review the new training methods for Agniveers and the implementation of the Agnipath scheme.

During his visit, the General Officer was briefed by Brigadier Suresh G, the Commandant of 1 EME Centre. The briefing included information about the upgraded military and technical training facilities, as well as various best practices. These practices included the establishment of an Outdoor Weapon Training Enclave, a Sports Medicine Centre, and an Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) Group with a dedicated Hands-on Training Enclave and customized training materials.

The General Officer praised the proactive initiatives and efforts made by 1 EME Centre to enhance the military and technical training for Agniveers. He also commended the Centre for organizing hands-on training for Agniveers in defense PSUs and the Field Army. The General Officer had the opportunity to interact with Agniveers during his visit and complimented both them and 1 EME Centre for their high standards of training.

Accompanying the Army Commander were Lieutenant General Karanbir Singh Brar, General Officer Commanding Dakshin Bharat Area, Major General Rakesh Manocha, General Officer Commanding Telangana and Andhra Sub Area, Major General RS Sundaram, MGEME Headquarter Southern Command, and other senior officers from the Headquarter Southern Command.

The 1 EME Centre is the premier training institute of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering. It provides basic military and technical training to Agniveers in both the technical and general duty streams. The Centre has a rich history, as even the legendary Milkha Singh, known as “India’s Flying Sikh,” underwent his basic military training there. The Centre also trains armorers from paramilitary forces and personnel from neighboring friendly countries like Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.

Before visiting 1 EME Centre, the GOC-in-C, Southern Command also visited Headquarters Telangana and Andhra Sub Area (TASA). The GOC TASA briefed the Army Commander on operations, disaster response preparations, land issues, and welfare measures for ex-servicemen and veterans. The Army Commander appreciated the efforts of TASA and highlighted their important role. He commended individuals for their exceptional work and encouraged everyone to continue their good work.

Lastly, the General Officer called on the Governor of Telangana and the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, at Raj Bhavan.
