Collector of RR organizes meeting on flood control

Ranga Reddy: The Burhan Khan Lake, also known as Osman Nagar Lake, has been submerged for the past four years, raising concerns for the residents living nearby. To assess the situation before the start of the monsoon season, the Ranga Reddy collector visited the affected area on Tuesday.

The Osman Nagar area, which is considered the most densely populated area under the Jalpally municipality, is located near a lake that goes by different names such as Osman Nagar, Burhan Khan, and Venkatapuram lake. The boundaries of this lake fall under both Jalpally and Badangpet municipal limits.

The heavy rains in 2020 and subsequent floods caused significant damage to the area, especially on the Osman Nagar side where houses were completely submerged. Despite almost four years passing since the disaster, authorities have not provided a practical solution for the displaced residents, leaving them anxious every rainy season.

The collector, accompanied by additional collector Pratima Singh and a team of officials, visited the Osman Nagar area to assess the situation and interact with the locals. They found hundreds of houses still submerged with no proper outlets to drain out water.

Following the visit, a meeting was held with commissioners from Jalpally and Badangpet municipalities, along with officials from Revenue and Irrigation departments. The collector emphasized the need for repair work around the lake to prevent any incidents during the upcoming rainy season. He also instructed officials to clean flood flow channels and maintain cleanliness in the surroundings.

Additionally, the collector directed officials to prepare an advance action plan to address issues like shortage of drinking water, sewage problems, mosquito infestations, and seasonal diseases during the rainy season.
