Hyderabad: Metro Rail Expansion Plans Underway

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to finalize the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the proposed Metro Rail projects in Future City, Shamirpet, and Medchal by the end of March this year. He also urged them to seek approval for these DPRs from the Union government and ensure that tenders for the projects are called by the end of April.

During a review meeting held at his residence on Tuesday, the Chief Minister assessed the progress of Metro Rail expansion, radial roads, and elevated corridors in Hyderabad. He emphasized the need to expedite land acquisition for three key Metro stretches: the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport-Future City line (40 km), the JBS-Shamirpet line (22 km), and the Paradise-Medchal line (23 km). Revanth Reddy highlighted the importance of designing elevated corridors that cater to future needs and instructed officials to conduct a thorough field-level study while planning the alignment.

The CM also pointed out that the Metro Rail work on the Medchal stretch should consider the existing three flyovers on the national highway in that area. He urged officials to begin constructing elevated corridors without delay. Additionally, he proposed that the Shamirpet and Medchal Metro networks originate from the same location, where a modern, well-equipped junction will be developed to serve future requirements. Officials were instructed to create a comprehensive plan for this junction to ensure it offers all necessary facilities for the public.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister directed the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) to oversee the development of radial roads. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity and accommodate the city’s growing infrastructure needs.
