Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Presents Key Demands to Union Minister in Hyderabad
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, during a review meeting in Hyderabad, put forward several important proposals to Union Minister for Urban Development and Power, Manohar Lal Khattar. The demands included the approval of 20 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2.0, a joint venture for Metro Phase-II, Rs 10,000 crore for the Musi Rejuvenation Project, and funds for drainage systems in Hyderabad and Warangal.
Revanth Reddy highlighted Telangana’s preparedness for PMAY 2.0, stating that the state had already collected comprehensive data and created plans for house construction. He reminded the Union Minister that Telangana was the first state to adopt the scheme and urged the Centre to prioritize the state. On Metro connectivity, the CM emphasized that Hyderabad lags behind cities like Delhi, Chennai, and Bangalore. He detailed the six proposed corridors under Phase-II, with five corridors spanning 76.4 km already submitted as Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) at an estimated cost of Rs 24,269 crore. The CM requested the Union government to approve these DPRs and partner with the state as a joint venture.
The Chief Minister also brought attention to the Musi Rejuvenation Project, urging the Centre to allocate Rs 10,000 crore. The funds would be used to build canals, box drains, and sewage treatment plants (STPs) along the 110-km stretch of the river to prevent sewage contamination. He underlined the project’s significance for environmental restoration and urban infrastructure development.
Additionally, Revanth Reddy proposed a Comprehensive Sewerage Master Plan (CSMP) for Hyderabad and 27 nearby urban areas. The project, estimated to cost Rs 17,212 crore, was suggested for inclusion under AMRUT 2.0 or as a special project for Central funding. He also highlighted a masterplan for Warangal, requesting Rs 41.70 crore for a modern underground drainage system to facilitate the city’s development.
The CM, along with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, also advocated for farming-related projects. They requested the allocation of 1 lakh solar pumps under the PM-Kusum scheme for tribal farmers and an additional 2,500 MW under the Kusum-C FLS component. Furthermore, they sought to include Telangana DISCOMs in the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and called for reduced interest rates on loans from the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) and Rural Electrification Corporation (REC).
In response, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar congratulated Telangana for attracting investments worth Rs 1.78 lakh crore. The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming Telangana’s commitment to contributing to India’s $5 trillion economy, with the state aspiring to achieve a $1 trillion economy on its own.
