CM Revanth Reddy Urges Southern States to Unite for Constitutional Rights

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has called for unity among southern states to protect their constitutional rights. He stressed the importance of resisting policies that undermine the federal structure, particularly those that promote a “one leader, one party” system.

Revanth Reddy made these statements while speaking at the Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters (MBIFL 2025) in Thiruvananthapuram. The event was organized by the renowned Malayalam daily Mathrubhumi. During the discussion, he interacted with Mathrubhumi editor Manoj K. Das and other attendees.

Concerns Over Parliamentary Seat Redistribution

LandSeeker

The Chief Minister raised concerns about the redistribution of parliamentary seats based on population. He pointed out that southern states, which have successfully implemented family planning policies and welfare programs, are now at a disadvantage. He questioned why these states should be penalized for their progressive policies.

Telangana’s Economic Growth

Revanth Reddy highlighted Telangana’s vision for development under the initiative “Telangana Rising.” He emphasized the state’s goal of transforming Hyderabad into a global city, ensuring inclusive and comprehensive progress.

Investment Boom

Telangana has become a major destination for international investments. At the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, the state attracted investments worth ₹1.82 lakh crore, showcasing its growing economic potential.

Welfare Initiatives

The Chief Minister outlined several welfare programs aimed at balancing industrial growth with social welfare. These include:
24-hour free electricity for farmers
₹12,000 per acre under Rythu Bharosa
₹12,000 annual support for landless families through Indiramma Athmiya Bharosa
₹500 per quintal bonus for crops
Loan waivers up to ₹2 lakh, benefiting 25 lakh farmer families with ₹21,000 crore in debt relief

Social Justice Policies

Telangana is the first state to conduct a comprehensive caste survey and implement SC sub-categorization based on a Supreme Court directive. The government has also declared February 4 as Telangana Social Justice Day to ensure fair resource allocation for BCs, SCs, STs, and minorities.

Economic Performance

According to the Union Government’s economic survey, Telangana has the lowest inflation rate in India and leads in per capita income. This highlights the state’s strong financial management and economic success.

Criticism of the Central Government

Revanth Reddy questioned why the Union Government was not providing adequate support to financially strong states, especially those in the south and those not governed by the BJP. He argued that Telangana achieving a $1 trillion economy would benefit the entire country and urged the Central Government to cooperate in this effort.

In his speech, Revanth Reddy voiced the growing concerns of southern states regarding central policies. He called for greater autonomy and cooperation among these states to safeguard their political and economic interests.
