Hyderabad is set to become a major hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI) as global tech giants Microsoft and Google announce new AI development centers in Telangana. Google will launch an AI Accelerator to support AI startups, while Microsoft plans to invest ₹15,000 crore in AI data centers.
On Thursday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inaugurated Microsoft’s new campus in Hyderabad. The massive 1.1 million sq. ft. building, located in Gachibowli, is LEED-certified and will accommodate 2,500 additional employees. This marks Microsoft’s 25-year journey in Hyderabad.
Microsoft currently employs over 20,000 professionals in India, with more than half based in Hyderabad. With the new building, the company plans to hire 4,800 more employees, further strengthening its presence in the city.
As part of its expansion, Microsoft announced a partnership with the Telangana government to provide AI training to over 1.2 lakh people. The program includes three initiatives: “ADVANTA(I)GE TELANGANA,” which will introduce AI education in 500 government schools, benefiting 50,000 students; an AI-Industry Pro program to upskill 20,000 industry professionals; and the AI-Govern initiative, which will train 50,000 government officials in AI, cybersecurity, and digital productivity.
Microsoft will also establish an AI Centre of Excellence (AICoE) in collaboration with the Telangana government. This center will create a cloud-based AI infrastructure, including a centralized AI Knowledge Hub. The hub will compile research, case studies, and best practices to benefit employees across the state.
To further boost AI development, Microsoft announced it will double its investment in hyperscale AI data centers in Telangana, adding another ₹15,000 crore in the coming years. This will make Hyderabad one of Microsoft’s largest data hubs globally.
Congratulating Microsoft, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted Hyderabad’s growth as a technology powerhouse. He said, “Hyderabad and Microsoft have grown together, and this is just the beginning. The world now sees Hyderabad as a city of innovation and global talent.”
