Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to issue new ration cards to all eligible families. However, since the election code is in effect in some districts, he asked officials to begin distributing ration cards in areas where the code does not apply.
During a review meeting, the CM instructed officials to speed up the verification of applications for new ration cards. These applications were received through Gram Sabhas, the Caste Survey, and Mee Seva centres. He emphasized the need for immediate arrangements to ensure a smooth distribution process across the state.
Revanth Reddy also questioned officials about the large crowds at Mee Seva centres despite multiple rounds of application collection. Officials explained that some families were submitting applications repeatedly, leading to overcrowding. The CM noted that this situation could have been avoided if the ration cards had been issued promptly. He urged officials to take quick action to resolve the issue.
The Chief Minister requested families who have already applied to stop revisiting the centres. Since the Election Code is currently in place due to the MLC polls, he instructed officials to begin issuing ration cards in districts where the code is not enforced. Once the election code is lifted, ration cards will be distributed across all districts.
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy also reviewed different designs for the new ration cards prepared by the Civil Supplies Department. He pointed out that lakhs of people had applied, and some existing cardholders had requested to add new family members. To streamline the process, he advised officials to raise awareness and prevent duplicate applications.
