Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy defended the government’s decision to name September 17 as “Praja Palana Dinotsavam.” He explained that just as Telangana gained freedom from the Nizam’s oppressive rule 76 years ago, the state also regained people’s governance in December 2023.
Revanth Reddy emphasized that this decision was not made to please any political party and had no political motivations. He quoted the famous Telangana poet Dasarathi Krishnamacharyulu, who wrote the poem “Telangana Koti Ratanala Veena,” to highlight the joint efforts of poets, writers, and armed fighters who fought against the Nizam’s rule. He said the entire nation stood against the Nizam, and the fight was not limited to any region, caste, or group. Telangana is a symbol of sacrifice, and one such hero of the struggle was Doddi Komaraiah.
The Chief Minister praised Komaraiah for dedicating his life to the armed struggle. He mentioned that many fighters lost everything in their pursuit of freedom but never gave up on their mission.
During his speech, Revanth Reddy also took the opportunity to highlight the state government’s initiatives, particularly for youth and women. He criticized BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao for comments about his frequent visits to Delhi. Revanth clarified that he visits the national capital to secure the state’s rightful share from the central government, not for personal reasons. He stated, “I am not a ‘farmhouse Chief Minister’ and have no ego when it comes to fighting for Telangana’s needs.”
The Chief Minister mentioned that the government is working to improve the state’s financial situation by restructuring its debts, which currently stand at nearly ₹7 lakh crore, and by stopping revenue leakages. He assured that the government is determined to ensure that every rupee owed by the Centre is secured for the benefit of Telangana.
Revanth Reddy also highlighted his government’s focus on youth development and the steps being taken to eradicate drug abuse in the state. He reiterated the importance of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA), which has been set up to reclaim lakes from illegal encroachment. He stressed that HYDRA’s creation has no political motives but is aimed at protecting nature.
