CM of Telangana appoints former AP official as irrigation advisor

The Telangana government made a quick decision after the Andhra Pradesh government removed all advisors appointed during the YSR party regime. This included Aditya Nath Das, who served as Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary for the Irrigation department in Andhra Pradesh. Das played a crucial role in negotiations between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on sharing river waters post-bifurcation.

During his time in the irrigation department, Das was involved in resolving issues related to irrigation projects over the course of 10 years. SK Joshi, who was in charge of irrigation projects in Andhra Pradesh, negotiated with Das on water sharing and project-related matters between the two states after the bifurcation.

Both officials were later appointed as Chief Secretaries in their respective states. However, Das was retained as an advisor on irrigation by the YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh. The state maintained its stance on water sharing and projects, aligning with the policies of the TDP government led by N Chandrababu Naidu until 2014.

The Telangana government’s decision to appoint Das as an irrigation advisor has been well-received. This move comes at a crucial time when the Centre is addressing water sharing issues between the two states and working to bolster the management of the Godavari and Krishna rivers.
