CM KCR urges MPs to advocate for 33% quota for OBCs and women in Parliament Special Session

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has asked the party MPs to speak out for 33% reservations for backward classes (OBCs) and women during the upcoming Parliament session. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the CM demanded these reservations. The CM chaired a meeting of the Parliamentary party and emphasized the party’s commitment to uplift the BCs and protect their rights. He instructed the MPs to raise these issues in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.

In his letter to Modi, the CM mentioned that the framers of the Constitution had intended to provide provisions for affirmative action by the State to correct historical injustices against socially and educationally marginalized sections of society. While reservations for OBCs in employment and education have been implemented, proportional representation in Parliament and State Legislatures is crucial in a democratic system to represent the hopes and aspirations of marginalized sections.
