The State government of Hyderabad has decided to set up a Medical College in every district to make medical and education accessible to remote areas. The Chief Minister believes that strengthening district hospitals and providing better medical care can only be achieved by expanding Medical Education.
Before 2014, there were only five government medical colleges in the united AP state, which were affiliated to NTR Health University. After the formation of the state, Kaloji Narayana Rao Health University was established in Warangal, and all the Medical Colleges became affiliated with it. Since 2016, Kaloji University has been conducting various medical courses.
Recognizing the need for more medical professionals to improve healthcare, the Chief Minister has decided to increase the number of seats by setting up new colleges. At the time of state formation, there were 2950 MBBS seats in government colleges and 15 private colleges.
Since the formation of Telangana State, the government has established 21 new government colleges and 13 new private colleges. Currently, there are 3690 seats in government medical colleges and 4525 seats in private colleges, totaling 8215 MBBS seats, along with seats for PG and super specialty courses. With the establishment of new colleges, the number of seats has increased significantly.
The government has sanctioned eight more government colleges in Mulugu, Narsampet, Yadadri, Maheswaram, Medak, Quthbullapur, Gadwal, and Narayanapet, which will start admissions next year. This shows the government’s commitment to public health.
The government is also focusing on improving medical services by constructing super specialty hospitals and purchasing state-of-the-art medical equipment. They have established cancer treatment centers, dialysis centers, diagnostic centers, operation theaters, ICUs, palliative care units, and critical care units. The government is also emphasizing the use of modern medical machines and supporting doctors.
The university has added admissions to various medical and health courses, including nursing, physiotherapy, and lab technician courses. The government has also established nursing colleges, physiotherapy colleges, and lab technician colleges in the state. This demonstrates the government’s vision of combining education with employment and developing ancillary medical services.
Overall, the government’s efforts to promote medical education and expand medical services are gaining recognition across the country.
