Clarification Needed on BCs' Share in Women's Bill in Karimnagar

Ennam Prakash, the Joint District President of the BC Welfare Association, has called on the Central government to clearly include the share of BCs (Backward Classes) in the Bill for special representation for women in Legislative Assemblies. Prakash made this statement during a meeting in Karimnagar on Wednesday, which was chaired by district executive president Rachamalla Raju at the BC Sangham building.

Prakash emphasized the need for special representation for women in Legislative Assemblies, stating that this demand has been present since 1987 when a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Margaret Alva by Rajiv Gandhi. He also mentioned that PV Narasimha Rao made a constitutional amendment to provide quota for women in local bodies. Prakash expressed concern that if the bill is implemented without reservation for BC women, it would result in the dominance of upper castes and go against the spirit of democracy. He demanded a sub-quota for BC, SC, and ST women.

Prakash pointed out that Telangana’s first legislative assembly passed a resolution on June 14, 2014, calling for BC reservation along with women’s reservation in the legislature. He stressed that social justice cannot be achieved without a women’s bill that includes the share of BCs.

In addition to Ennam Prakash and Rachamalla Raju, other attendees at the meeting included District President Nagula Kanakaiah Goud, General Secretary Doggali Sridhar, Women’s Association State Vice President Varala Jyoti, District President Gangipelli Aruna, Student Union Joint District President Naroju Rakesh Chari, and others.
