City of Hyderabad experiences severe traffic congestion due to heavy rainfall.

After a long period of dry weather, Hyderabad experienced intermittent rainfall on Tuesday evening, causing flooding on several roads and creating huge traffic jams. The rain started around 5:45 pm with heavy thunder activity, reducing visibility and slowing down vehicles. This resulted in gridlocks across the city during peak hours, leaving many commuters stuck for hours.

Motorists faced chaos and confusion on the waterlogged roads in areas like L B Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Hayath Nagar, Film Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Ameerpet, Abids, Ramanthapur, Tarnaka, Secunderabad, Erragadda, Mehdipatnam, and Kukatpally. The situation was particularly bad in Hitech City and surrounding areas, as well as chronic water logging spots like Nampally, Khairtabad, Banjara Hills, Secretariat area, and Somajiguda.

Traffic police worked tirelessly to manage the congestion in Punjagutta, Khairtabad, Lakadikapul, Ameerpet, Gachibowli, and other areas during the evening rush hour. The Dilsukh Nagar-Chaitanyapuri stretch and Balanagar Y Junction also faced traffic snarls due to overflowing floodwater. GHMC staff and traffic police were on the scene to clear the water and ease the traffic flow.

In response to the rain-related issues, the GHMC’s directorate of Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management (EVDM) has provided helpline numbers for citizens seeking assistance. They can call 040-21111111 or 9000113667 for GHMC-DRF assistance.
