City authorities dismantle illicit drug operation

The Drugs Control Administration in Hyderabad has discovered a fake drug operation involving antibiotics, hypertension and cholesterol medicines, and analgesics. The raids took place in various locations in Hyderabad, resulting in the seizure of fake drugs worth Rs 26 lakh. The operation was carried out by a special team based on intelligence about the entry of counterfeit drugs into Telangana from Kashipur in Uttarakhand.

The team conducted raids at courier offices in Dilsukhnagar and Uppal after receiving information about the shipping of fake drugs to Hyderabad through Trackon Couriers Pvt. Ltd. They found two parcels, weighing 14.5 kg and 13.34 kg respectively, which were claimed to contain ‘machine parts’ but actually contained spurious drugs. The parcels were shipped from Kashipur by Amar Pharmaceuticals and delivered to a person named Puvvada Lakshman in Hyderabad. With the help of the police, the officials located and apprehended Lakshman at a bar near Shiva Ganga Theatre in Dilsukhnagar.

Further investigation led to the discovery of a warehouse owned by Lakshman, where stocks of counterfeit drugs received from Kashipur were found. Eight different types of fake drugs were seized. During interrogation, Lakshman revealed the names of his accomplices, Pokala Ramesh and Garapalli Purnachander, both from Saidabad. He also disclosed that he received the spurious drugs from a person named Nadeem in Uttarakhand.

The Drugs Control Administration in Telangana alerted the authorities in Uttarakhand about the situation. The special team conducted raids at the residences of the accused individuals. The seized counterfeit drugs included fake medicines falsely labeled under the names of reputable companies.
