In Hyderabad, the Health department issued an advisory due to extreme heat conditions. The advisory includes ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ for citizens to follow to stay safe.
Citizens are advised to stay hydrated by drinking water regularly, even if they are not thirsty. They should also use Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and consume homemade drinks like lemon water, butter milk, fruit juices, and seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content.
It is recommended to carry water while traveling, wear light-colored and loose cotton clothing, cover the head with umbrellas or hats, limit outdoor activities to cooler times of the day, and avoid going out in the sun between noon and 3 pm. Certain groups, such as infants and children, pregnant women, and those with certain medical conditions, are at greater risk of heat-related illnesses and need extra attention.
Citizens should also avoid strenuous activities in the afternoon, cooking during peak summer hours, consuming alcohol or sugary drinks, high-protein foods, and stale food. They should not leave children or pets in parked vehicles. If experiencing symptoms like altered mental state, high body temperature, headache, nausea, rapid heartbeat, or muscle cramps, immediate medical attention should be sought from nearby government health facilities.
