Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials are misleading netizens who raise grievances online on social media platforms. Despite having digital platforms like the GHMC app, X (formerly Twitter), and a helpline for grievance redressal, the civic body has failed to meet people’s expectations. Only a few grievances are being addressed, while the rest remain unaddressed or the officers mislead the citizens and higher authorities.
Citizens frequently raise public grievances on social media, particularly on X. They tag the Mayor, GHMC chief, ministers, and public representatives, who often respond and direct their officers to solve the issues promptly. However, there have been instances of fake responses by officials.
For example, a complaint was raised about garbage in Moghalpura, Old City, on X. The Mayor responded and directed the zonal commissioner and circle officers to address the issue. The officers posted a photo claiming that the garbage had been cleared, but it was later discovered that the photo was fake. The garbage was still present, and there was no public toilet as shown in the photo.
This incident exposes the lackadaisical attitude of GHMC officers. They frequently claim to have resolved issues when they have not taken any action. Mohammed Ahmed, a state spokesperson for TDP, called for strict action against the fraudulent staff and demanded that the Mayor visit the Old City area at least once a month.
Residents also highlighted the lack of senior officer visits to their area. K Venkatesh from Lal Darwaza stated that the Mayor had not visited the Old City in months. With no attention from higher authorities, circle officers are not fulfilling their duties and are misleading their superiors.
