The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee is preparing for the Assembly elections by organizing a large public meeting on August 18. This meeting is significant because AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge will announce the SC and ST declaration on that day. TPCC president A Revanth Reddy stated that the Congress is the only party that will ensure justice for SCs and STs. If the Congress is elected, they will increase the reservation quota for SCs and STs according to their population.
This will be the third major declaration by the Congress party. Last year, Rahul Gandhi announced the Farmers’ Declaration in Warangal, and Priyanka Gandhi released the Youth Declaration in Hyderabad on May 8. Revanth criticized the KCR government for taking away lands that were allotted to SCs by previous Congress governments. He also accused the government of auctioning assigned lands and usurping Podu lands of tribals.
Meanwhile, AICC in-charge for Telangana Manikrao Thakare assured the welfare of Scheduled Tribes. He mentioned that Rahul Gandhi had interacted with tribals during Bharat Jodo Yatra and understood their problems. Thakare criticized the RSS for plotting to eliminate reservations for Backward Classes and creating divisions between different communities.
In addition, former minister and BJP leader A Chandra Sekhar is expected to join the Congress during the August 18 public meeting. The TPCC is likely to announce its poll manifesto a day before the meeting.
